DJI have created a new camera for the Mavic 2 Pro called the L1D-20c, in partnership with Hasselblad, the Swedish camera manufacturer. It boasts an adjustable aperture so you can choose the depth-of-field to suit your shot with a range of f/2.8-f/11 that allows you to select super sharp focus or better low-light performance depending on your scene.
The bright f/2.8 lens works together with a large 1-inch CMOS image sensor that is around 4 times the size of the original Mavic and this allows you to capture shots in darker lighting conditions that ever before. The resolution of the sensor has also been increased to 20-megapixels for better detail reproduction and sharper video.
Attached to the bottom of the drone is a 3-Axis stabilising gimbal that allows the camera to capture smooth stable footage from the sky while performing complicated aerial manoeuvres. The gimbal can even pan left or right around during flight using the head tracking mode of the DJI Goggles.
The improvements to the Mavic 2 arent just about the camera though, the video capabilities of the Mavic 2 Pro have been significantly boosted as well. The camera now shoots HDR/HLG video footage that can be played on a compatible TV without grading, as well as DJIs own flat DLog-M colour profile for extensive colour correction abilities.
Both the HDR and DLog-M footage can be recorded in 10 Bit colour ensuring you’re capturing the widest dynamic range possible with over a billion colours available. The Mavic Pro 2 records in the H.265 codec which captures over 50% more detail than H.264 at a maximum video bitrate of 100Mbps
DJI have incorporated Hasselblads Natural Colour Solution Technology into the Mavic 2 Pro which ensures images captured are reproduced with stunning colour accuracy and detail.
Designed to be quieter, more powerful, and faster than previous models, the Mavic 2 Pro can reach speeds up to 72 km/h in sports mode, great for keeping up with fast-moving subjects. It can also stay in the air for up to 31 minutes, the longest flight time for any consumer drone on the market.
The new propulsion system of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro has been tested in extreme conditions and with a fully charged battery is able to fly up to 18km in windless conditions. When faced with less than perfect weather conditions the drone is rated to resist winds speeds up to 38kph.
With the new OcuSync 2.0 transmission system, the aircraft can be flown up to 8km away from the controller while still providing Full HD live streaming for piloting. It switches between both 2.4 and 5.8Ghz wireless frequencies to avoid interference and provide a solid connection. The new transmission system is also compatible with the DJI Goggles and DJI Goggles RE for POV piloting
Obstacle sensors on all sides, make the Mavic 2 Pro safer than ever to fly. Dual vision sensors at the front and rear, as well as single vision sensors on each side work to detect obstacles up to 20 metres away. An infrared sensor on top of the aircraft and downward facing dual vision sensors, infrared and a new auxiliary, LED landing light in the base complete the detection system.
Active Track 2.0
The new Active Track 2.0 mode offers precision accuracy by mapping a 3-dimensional view using the main camera and forward sensors. Using a predictive algorithm, the drone actively tracks your subject even if the view is momentarily blocked. Combined with high-speed tracking and obstacle sensing Active Track 2.0 is the most advanced track system yet.
Hyperlapse
Choose from the four different hyperlapse modes; free, circle, course lock and waypoint that not only shoots your hyperlapse images but also compiles them in camera. You can choose the save the RAW images for individual processing if you prefer and its even possible to save a flight path to be recreated again accurately.
HDR
This stills mode blends a sequence of shots together with a range of different exposure settings to deliver images with a wider dynamic range and improved clarity. The Mavic Pro is able to capture a massive 14 Stops of Dynamic Range with this mode.
HyperLight
Designed especially for low-light photography, this mode reduces image noise and helps to capture brighterlow-light images.
Panoramas
Four different Panorama modes. Choose from Sphere, 180, Horizontal and Vertical Panoramic modes.
POI 2.0
POI setting now easier than ever. Using GPS coordinates and vision processing technology the new Point-Of-Interest mode allows you to select and circle a subject with ease.
Waypoint 2.0
The updated Waypoint mode removes the need to fly the drone to the waypoints to lock in a route, now you can do it by simply tapping the waypoints on a map and designating your point of interest.
Asteroid
A new ‘Asteroid’ mode, spins and flies down to a designated point of interest for a dramatic subject reveal.
Boomerang
This new mode spins around and flies away from a subject before returning to its original position.
All these new intelligent flight and capture modes ensure that the DJI Mavic Pro 2 make capturing incredible high-quality aerial footage and stills easier than ever.
